In this room we see Charles’ picture books. These books are for younger children and are all in colour, with lots of pictures and only a little bit of writing. You can recognise Charles’ early books, they are very free in treatment, with bright and textured colour.
A little later he produced ‘Joseph’s Yard’, ‘Through the Window’, and ‘The Garden Shed’. These books had to be done on colour separations as they were shown on television. Then followed books like ‘Sammy Streetsinger’ and ‘Adam and Paradise Island’, again another slight change of style.
